FAQ’s

How does my child gain entry into a specialist sports program?

  • Referrals from State or Australian sporting organisation.
  • Referrals through the Darling Range Sports College talent identification staff.
  • Upon completing and submitting an Expression of Interest form.  Your child will then be requested to attend a trial session.

How does the selection process work?

  • Every applicant will have their ability assessed through sport specific and physical fitness testing
  • The college will examine your child’s reports/comments as an indication of commitment to studies and suitability.
  • The college will inform the parent as to whether their child has met the selection criteria.

How many sports can my child trial for?

Your child can trial for two sports however only one can be selected for enrolment.

Who conducts the trials?

The trials are conducted by the independent Coaching staff and Coordinators of each sport.

What is expected of my child if they join a sporting program?

  • Attend all coaching and training sessions and participate at a high level.
  • Demonstrate a sustained commitment to college academic studies.
  • Maintain an exemplary record of college conduct, and
  • represent the College at all scheduled fixtures.

Can my child change sport? 

Your child must go through another selection process for the sport they wish to change into for the following year.  There will be no changes made between sports in a calendar year.  Students must commit to their chosen sport for a minimum period of one year.

Does my child miss any curriculum time?

No.  The college programs are all conducted as part of a student’s academic program.

What if my child attends a sporting fixture during the day?

Students attending fixtures during a school day are expected complete all assigned work.

Is there a fee involved?

Yes.  A yearly fee of approximately $300 is to be paid.  Each sport is self funding to pay coaches, venues etc.  All money is spent on those students in each individual sport.

Where are the venues?

The college has highly regarded facilities which the students will use, however for some sports programs, students will travel offsite to train or play inter school fixtures.
