Sporting Programs

       Darling Range Sports College offers talented sportspersons the opportunity to combine elite coaching and competition with a highly regarded academic program.

Darling Range Sports College is a recognised leader in the delivery of Specialist Sporting Programs with over ten years experience. All coaches are merit selected and highly qualified. The College offers Sporting Programs in Athletics (sprint focus), Australian Rules Football, Cricket, Diamond Sports (baseball/softball), Football Boys and Girls; Netball, Rugby Union, and Swimming.  Students from all over Western Australia and Australia, and international students are eligible to trial for selection in the comprehensive programs designed to enhance the student’s skills and abilities and provide a supportive learning environment which recognises the needs of talented athletes. The Co-ordinators of each program liaise closely with the sports governing bodies and many have coaching or playing experience with Australian and Western Australian teams.

Mission

The Darling Range Sports College provides a nationally and internationally recognised specialist program for the delivery of Specialist Sports programs. Integral to this program is the provision of a high quality academic education and a strong commitment to students achieving at their “Personal Best”. Within our college community, students will be encouraged to develop a passion for learning and a sense of respect for themselves and others.

The college is committed to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment that recognises and caters for the different academic, artistic, cultural, health and pastoral needs of students.

The college is also committed to providing state of the art facilities and resources designed to meet its specific responsibilities as a significant institution for the education and training of sports people.

Darling Range Sports College aspires to be one of the finest colleges for talented young sportspeople, through the provision of innovative, creative and excellent programs. Students will be resilient, self confident, creative, and compassionate individuals, who will have developed beyond their expectations. They will be significant contributors to the sporting life of Australia.

Guiding Principles

The Darling Range Sports College identifies the potential of young sportspeople seeking entry to the college into years 8 - 12 through a trial. These trials are open to all students, including those from regional Western Australia, interstate and overseas. For the development of elite skills, the serious study of their chosen sport:

  • thorough technical training which begins at an early age
  • daily classes and many hours of practice
  • the nurturing of creativity
  • specialist teaching by highly skilled and experienced sports specific teachers , with Master classes by visiting national and international coaches
  • high quality competitive opportunities
  • provision of appropriate facilities and resources


Of equal importance to the development of the individual is:

  • the provision of a high quality comprehensive education suitable for young sports  people, which comprises a core curriculum covering all Learning Areas
  • a well planned program focussing on individual student needs,delivered sing diverse teaching strategies
  • a safe and purposeful college environment
  • the active promotion of cooperative and supportive relationships between all members of the college community


As a college of educational leadership we will also:

  • provide access to our elite sporting facilities to other elite specialist training institutions
  • provide appropriate access to the college's facilities to the educational and sporting groups who form part of our wider community.

  3. Advanced Video analysis equipment, G.P.S satellite tracking systems and extensive use of technological equipment to enhance performance
  4. Academic Excellence Programs in Maths, Science, English and Society and Environment
  5. Talented music students can combine their academic and sporting program with the study of a musical instrument.
  6. After school study groups for athletes to assist in the completion of homework and assigned work
  7. Opportunities to represent the school in over 55 sporting teams
  8. School Bands, Choir, Rock Eisteddfod, Drama Productions and other co curricular activities.
