School Apprenticeship Link (SAL)

SAL is a one to two year training program  for students interested in an apprenticeship post school. It lets students "try a trade" to see if this industry area is where they want to work. Students are at school three days a week, one day in a workplace and one day at training

SAL Kickstart CERTIFICATE  II Pre-apprenticeship Program 2011

The SAL Kickstart provides additional places in a Certificate II pre apprenticeships in skills shortage areas for students in Year 11 and 12. The main objective of SAL Kickstart pilot is to ensure that students have the opportunity to complete a Certificate II in pre-apprenticeship while at school and  are better prepared for transition into a Certificate III apprenticeship.

School Based Traineeships

A school based traineeship allows senior secondary students to start a traineeship while also completing the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Under these arrangements the student is both a full-time student and a part-time employee with the same employment and training responsibilities as other trainees.

School Based Apprenticeships

Schools Based Apprenticeships allow students to start an apprenticeship while still at school. This is on a part-time basis while at school and continues full or part-time after the student leaves school. Apprentice/trainees are employed by a group training organisation, which places them with a host employer. Students are paid for the time they are in the workplace and are usually three days at school, one day in the workplace and one day at training.

Aboriginal School Based Traineeships

The Aboriginal School Based Training is specifically aimed at Indigenous students to help get them started with an apprenticeship/traineeship while at school. To be considered for an ASBT parents are invited to attend a parent evening at the start of the year organised by the AIEO where the expectations and types of traineeship opportunities are explained.

Apprentice/trainee are employed by a group training organisation, which places them with a host employer. They spend time in the workplace with their host employer and time with the training provider.

Due to the level of commitment required to succeed in the School Based Traineeships/Apprenticeships, students are interviewed to determine readiness and ability, based on grades, attendance and general performance at school before applications are considered.

The following courses are offered to students in enrolled in mainstream subjects (students do not have to be enrolled in discrete VET  classes).

CERTIFICATE II in Sport and Recreation.

Year 12 Students enrolled in a sports program complete the CERT II in Sport and Recreation with the emphasis on sports they are involved in.The range includes Cricket, Rugby, Swimming, Netball, AFL and Soccer.
