What is the Darling Range Sports College High Performance Program?

Reinforcing the critical understanding that enjoyment, skills and discipline are most effectively developed by Education.  The Director/Coordinator and Coach’s of this program   conduct specific activities within the curriculum guidelines that enable the student athlete to pursue a pathway to higher education while further developing their baseball knowledge and skills implementing the Darling Range Sports Colleges ethos.  The baseball program will include very structured lessons and training with a priority on values, interpersonal skills and firm understanding of respect, not only for the sport but the wider community and their peers.

The Specialist Baseball Program addresses all the fundamentals of baseball and provides expert direction and coaching to maximise a student’s skills and abilities, in line with Baseball WA’s pathways.

The program includes:

  • Minimum 3 x 1 hour coaching sessions per week including fitness sessions.
  • 1 x 1hour Athlete Development Program (Focus on diet, nutrition, sports medicine, psychology, recovery and rehabilitation, coaching and umpiring)
  • BaseballWA and SoftballWA Interschool Competitions
  • Demonstration games prior to the Perth Heat fixtures
  • Games against touring teams from Interstate and Overseas
  • Intensive clinics with Australia’s leading coaches
  • Opportunity to complete coaching,  umpiring and scoring accreditation
  • Interstate and overseas tours
  • Fitness Assessment twice a year and feedback in relation to National Standards.

Who is our Baseball coach?

  •  Inaugural Perth Heat Manager, State U/18s Coach, Australian Junior assistant Coach
  • AIS Level 3 coaching-administration accreditation baseball
  • Coached and developed in excess of 50 WA players into College, Professional, and Olympic Baseball Programs
  • BWA Development Officer ( 6 Years )
  • Extensive experience in Baseball and Education and Sports Administration 30 Years  (Perth Heat, West Coast Eagles)
  • State Champions Little League Coach 98,99,06- 8 time State League Premiership Coach, Perth Mets, Wembley Magpies, Morley Eagles
  • WA Claxton Shield Representative- NAIA College All American Baseball Team

Sporting Facilities

  • Our baseball program is primarily based at Baseball Park and supported by the following facilities at the college
  • State of the Art Pitching machines
  • Indoor batting cage
  • Indoor heated pool
  • Indoor Stadium which includes a 250 seat indoor court, strength and conditioning centre, seminar rooms
  • Sports Science Laboratory

  • 1 player at the Gold Coast Academy

  • 4 students in state SSWA Teams
  • 1 Australian Representative - Cal Ripkin World Series
  • WAIS Scholarship holders

How does the DRSC Specialist Baseball program link to BWA’s Pathways?

  • Student athletes clear pathway to College Baseball programs in the USA Junior Colleges in Florida – Texas
  • Darling Range Program works and liaises directly with BWA –Perth Heat High Performance Programs
  • Direct links to all State League Clubs, State  Association and National Programs, both junior and senior including Little League Programs
  • Continuous exposure to professional scouts

How do I Apply?

Step 1   Complete and return the Application for enrolment.  This can be downloaded from our website www.darlingrangesc.wa.edu.au  (selection will not proceed without relevant documentation)   If you do not have access to a computer we can mail out a hard copy.

Step 2   Review of performance and report data.  (selection will not proceed without relevant documentation)

Step 3   Placement offers mailed out to successful students

Step 4   Return of acceptance of offers to college to confirm your child’s position for 2013.

Students must participate in regular baseball competitions and provide supporting documentation.  Note that students may be in anyyear and acceptance and ongoing placement in the program is based on continued academic effort, acceptable attendance levels an excellent behaviour record and payment of contributions and charges. Students are supported by a school environment which caters for the academic and welfare needs of the talented athlete, allowing students to gain a quality education whilst still pursuing their sporting dreams.
