What is the Darling Range Sports College Cricket program?

The program has been operating since 2006 and provides a unique opportunity for talented cricketers (both boys and girls) aged 13-18 to combine academic and sporting excellence.

The program includes:

  • 4 hours per week developing their skills including fitness and futsal sessions.  Included in the 4 hours is the highly regarded Athlete Development Program incorporating a focus on diet, nutrition, sports medicine courses, psychology, recovery and rehabilitation, coaching and umpiring
  • WACA Competitions at a state wide level
  • Tour and regular use of the Midland/Guildford indoor facilities at Lilac Hill
  • Intensive supa clinics with Australia’s leading coaches
  • Opportunity to complete coaching,  umpiring and scoring accreditation
  • Interstate and overseas tours
  • Opportunities to play Interstate and International teams
  • Fitness Assessments twice a year

How does the program work?

The Cricket program addresses all the fundamentals of cricket and provides expert coaching to maximise a student’s skills and abilities.  The program has a heavy emphasis on individual technique development and also teaches the importance of team principles of play.

  • Batting- attacking and defensive technique
  • Bowling all types, fast, medium, swing, leg and off spin
  • Fielding – throwing, catching, ground fielding
  • Wicket keeping
  • Scoring
  • Introduction to cricket pitch preparation and Management
  • Regular formal fitness assessments – conducted by an external provider.

Sporting Facilities

  • Indoor cricket nets (to be completed)
  • Turf wicket and turf nets at Kostera Oval (home ground)
  • Indoor heated pool
  • Indoor Stadium which includes a 250 seat indoor court, strength and conditioning centre, seminar rooms
  • Sports Science Laboratory

What has the Program achieved?

  • In 2010 DRSC 1st XI represented Western Australia at the International Schools and Colleges 20/20 Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand.
  • Numerous players represent a WACA Grade Clubs
  • In 2009 the Yr8A and Yr9A teams were undefeated in competitions with other Specialist Cricket and Private schools.
  • 2009 semi-finalists in the WACA SunSmart 1stXI Cricket Competition
  • 2008 Super 8 Champions

How does the DRSC Cricket program link to Association/Community Cricket?

  • All players are required to play cricket in a recognised WACA competition.
  • The program complements programs conducted by all local cricket associations.
  • Our coaches have strong contacts with the WACA Clubs.
  • Through our relationships with state and local coaches all players are provided with a multitude of opportunities to enhance their cricket careers.
  • Established links with English Counties

How do I Apply?

To be part of this program prospective students need to download the Application for Enrolment forms, complete and return to the College prior to the trial date. 

Students must participate in regular cricket competitions and provide supporting documentation.  Note that students may be in Year 6 and 7 and acceptance and ongoing placement in the program is based on continued academic effort, acceptable attendance levels an excellent behaviour record and payment of contributions and charges. Students are supported by a school environment which caters for the academic and welfare needs of the talented athlete, allowing students to gain a quality education whilst still pursuing their sporting dreams.
