High Performance Rugby Program

(Not all Rugby Programs are the SAME)

 

What is the Darling Range Sports College Rugby Program?

The program provides a unique opportunity for players (aged 13 – 18 years) to combine effectively academic and sporting excellence. The program is fully endorsed by RugbyWA, WARL and the Department of Education.

The program includes:

  • 4 hours per week developing their skills including fitness and futsal sessions.  Included in the 4 hours is the highly regarded Athlete Development Program incorporating a focus on diet, nutrition, sports medicine courses, psychology, recovery and rehabilitation, coaching and refereeing
  • The program is implemented into a full academic curriculum, with the opportunities to gain entry to TAFE through our Certificate II courses, or University.
  • Opportunities to compete in RugbyWA Competitions at Zone, Regional and State levels
  • Opportunities to participate in Interstate and overseas tours
  • Specialised skills development
  • Individual Strength and Conditioning Programs for players
  • Fitness Assessment twice a year and feedback in relation to National Standards

How does the Program work?

  • The program follows the skills and benchmarks established by the ARU and the NRL.
  • The program has a heavy emphasis on individual offensive and defensive fundamentals and also teaches team principles of play and tactics
  • Players have the opportunity to gain certificates in coaching and refereeing.

Sporting Facilities

  • Indoor heated pool
  • Indoor Stadium which includes a 250 seat indoor court, strength and conditioning centre, seminar rooms

How does the Program link to Rugby Clubs?

All players are required to be members of a Rugby Union and/or League Club affiliated with the ARU and NRL.  The program complements programs conducted by all local Rugby associations and clubs.

Through our Rugby network and relationships with National and State coaches, all players are provided with a multitude of opportunities to enhance their Rugby careers.

A high number of students have gone on to play representative rugby at Regional, State and International level, with others gaining professional contacts unpon completion of Year 12.

 

How do I apply?

To be part of this program, prospective students need to download the Application for Enrolment form, complete and return to the College.  Students must participate in a Rugby competition and undertake a trial in term two, and provide supporting documentation as detailed.  Note that students may be in any year, and acceptance and ongoing placement in the program is based on continued academic effort, acceptable attendance levels, an excellent behaviour record and payment of contributions and charges.

Students are supported by a school environment which caters for the academic and welfare needs of the talented athletes.
